🚲There was traffic all the way down the street at SAMOHI but the bike audit was a success in increasing attention that students are using bikes to school!🚲 Join us as we ride along the Santa Monica Beach bicycle trail. Putting people to work for the climate is one of the most meaningful climate actions we can take: it prepares a workforce that is needed and ready to address climate issues and implement solutions. This week, we will explore the California Goldenbush (Ericameria ericoides). 🌼 As a part of CASM’s CJC Nancy Sanchez and Mario Melgarejo have been working on two projects structured around their interests in sustainability by collecting data to document how to move forward. Want to hear more? Go to our bio and find the recording of what the Climate Corps members have been doing. One of CASM's CJCs Nancy is conducted research focusing on the Disposable Food Ware Ordinance by collecting data based on restaurant chains/ food establishments within Santa Monica through deliveies. This study was done to indicate whether food establishments are following @cityofsantamonica Disposable Food Ware Ordinance which indicates that food ware must not be plastic. If you want to hear more go to CASM'S website and watch the video what are CASM'S CJC doing? Environmental Science Cool Careers panel, on December 6, Wednesday, from 4:00-5:30 pm via zoom. We have 6 amazing speakers singed up from various backgrounds! This week, we are highlighting the Santa Monica Laurel Sumac (Malosoma laurina). A great choice for gardeners seeking a low-maintenance native plant! Santa Monica Laurel Sumac is well-suited to the local climate and brings a touch of California's natural beauty to your landscape. Couldn't make it to our November SAMOCAN Event? Go to our linktree and go to our past SAMOCAN Events to watch it! Thanks to Alex Tower from the @thebayfoundation and Nico Predock from the @cityofsantamonica for their support and help explaining the next steps of Beach Dunes Project! CJC Mario (first picture) and CASM Co-Chair, Bicycling Advocate, and Urban Planning Activist Kent Strumpell (second picture) spoke up about bicycle safety yesterday at the city hall meeting. Interested and hearing what they have to say go check out the @cityofsantamonica for the city hall YouTube channel! This week, we're highlighting the unique Woolly Bluecurls (Trichostema lanatum)! This lovely flower isn’t only pretty to look at, it is also soft to the touch. Join @cityofsantamonica for the city's next sustainable film screening of The Need to Grow on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the Santa Monica Main Library. A panel discussion will follow the film. The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT) is partnering with Council District 11 to plan a network of four bikeways connecting Westside neighborhoods and adjacent cities. The bike routes will feature traffic calming measures to make them comfortable for riders of all ages and abilities. City of Santa Monica Mobility Staff will Join us for a Virtual Online Meeting to present updates on bike and safety projects, campaigns, and to get your feedback. Take a look at CASM'S CJC at the Theodore Payne Foundation. It was a great experience and the CJC can't wait for the next trip! Do you have any recommendations for trips? This week, we have the hardy Desert Wishbone-bush (Mirabilis laevis) which is endemic (limited) to California!
