This week the Senate begins holding hearings to vet cabinet nominees. It’s important to urge your senators to keep climate deniers and big oil out of leadership. CA Senator Dianne Feinstein is on the Judiciary Committee that is now considering Sen. Jeff Sessions, nominated to be the U.S. Attorney General, the “chief law enforcement officer of the Federal Government,” head of the Justice Department and the “People’s attorney.” From civil rights and environmental laws to immigration and hate crime laws, the Attorney General determines what will be enforced.
CA Senator Kamala Harris sits on the Environment and Public Works Committee. The committee, on Wednesday, will begin examining former Exxon-Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson, nominated to be the Secretary of State, who will help shape the U.S. role on the Paris Agreement and future climate matters. Other climate troubling nominees coming before the Senate are Oklahoma Atty. General Scott Pruitt to head the Environmental Protection Agency, Gov. Rick Perry for Secretary of Energy, and Congressman Ryan Zinke to be Secretary of the Interior. C-span is a good source for listening to or viewing the cabinet nominee hearings.
