Title: Community Engagement Coordinator
Reports to: Climate Corps Manager

Organization description
Climate Action Santa Monica (CASM) is a nonprofit focused on climate mitigation and adaptation amidst the climate emergency. We are a collaborative group working diligently to help transform complex systems at the local level. One of our programs is a youth program, CASM Climate Corps, run in partnership with the City of Santa Monica. Climate Jobs Corps, also in partnership with City of Santa Monica and funded through the Californians for All Youth Workforce Development program, is to provide jobs to youth ages 16 – 30 that support local climate work. This role is the second Climate Jobs Corps role of this program that will hire 14-16 positions funded through May 2024.

General position description
The Community Engagement Coordinator works closely with the Climate Corps Manager to perform a variety of functions for CASM’s youth program, Climate Corps, and its other programs. The Community Engagement Coordinator enjoys teamwork and communicating with others while also has skills with organization, email and other online tools. The location of the role is in Santa Monica, CA. Candidate must be able to be present for team meetings in Santa Monica as well as work independently offsite.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Recruiting and enrollment of Climate Corps
○ Use Aplos, email and phone to distribute recruitment materials to schools and organizations, follow up to ensure distribution
○ Assist to update and expand Aplos recruitment list
○ Send, collect, and track enrollment forms
● Scheduling and organizational communication to Corps
○ Getting list of preferred messaging and other contact info
○ Use Aplos, email, or other messaging platform to communicate organizational information to the Corps, Corps alumni, and other advisers and volunteers
● Coordination of Climate Corps programs, which may include:
○ Community engagement surveying at public events
○ Teaching Corps how to survey
○ Uploading survey data from tablets, charge tablets
○ Transporting flyers, giveaways and other surveying supplies
○ Coordinating with project partners
○ Helping set up training and culmination events
○ Helping monitor attendance
○ Setting up exit interviews with Corps at end of program
● Wear CASM t-shirt/hat as needed
● Help take pictures at events
● Execute evaluation surveys during program using paper or tablets

Knowledge, skills and abilities
● Works collaboratively, follows through
● Organized and attentive to administrative detail
● Consciousness and knowledge about human-caused climate change that has generated emergency
● Ability to learn online software to enter and maintain spreadsheet database of contacts
● Familiar with Google Drive
● Experience or willingness in speaking about climate change publicly with diverse audiences, comfort speaking with people
● Ability to travel to sites as needed, sometimes with light cargo
● Enthusiasm for learning
● Knowledge of and interest in Santa Monica preferred

Education and experience
● Experience working with youth, communications, non-profits, and community organizing are a plus
● High school or equivalent education
● Environmental coursework or experience preferred

Hours and pay
● part-time role
● pay rate is $18 – $22 per hour
● Workload will be 10 – 30 hours per week with highest hours per week during June and July
● Laptop and internet connectivity provided if needed
